With a name like Barry Still, what better name for me to have for my photography web site than b still photography? A convenient case of nominative determinism!
In this world of mass information overload, I would like to invite you to be still for a moment, and peruse some of my stills, including some of bees…
… and birds… and quite a few of Foxes!
My photographic journey in life has been a long one, and the images that I enjoy capturing the most are of wildlife and how they interact with their environment. I try to keep wildlife images as true and unmanipulated as possible, using the editing of RAW files as one would make the most of film negatives in a darkroom to create photographic prints.
I’ve also enjoyed experimenting with photos of the odd live band – and some of them have been very odd too! It’s hard to capture sound in a photo though, so I have been recording them on video instead these days, thanks to the HD quality of modern DSLRs.
I have also been drawn into taking photos of Rallies and Marches held to highlight the dismantling and privatisation of the National Health Service since 2010, and capturing these historic moments in time when people are driven to protest on the streets.
Having started out with film cameras, and having my own black and white darkroom for several years, I have a back catalogue of many negatives that I intend to scan and then edit to give them a new lease of life, given their historical context. That is, when I get the time, and ideally a more reliable source of income!
Meanwhile, I’m spending a fortune on bird food and running a community garden, so I’m now looking at ways to fund my photographic journey. I hope you enjoy viewing these photos as much as I have enjoyed taking and editing them, and I would appreciate any feedback via a comment – preferably of the constructive type – please!
